about us

Our Journey

Aberdeen Academy of Performing Arts was established in August 2005 and has within a short space of time become one of the leaders in performing arts education in Scotland.

From our youngest students of only 6 weeks old we provide specialist tuition with Trained, Experienced and Qualified Staff. We are the founders and home of the unique Mac the Monkey brand. From the Age of 3 years old our classes progress into independent child sessions where we aim to develop the confidence, social, lingual, physical skills alongside the technical skills in the performing arts.

As your child grows our classes progress too and we run a selection of different dance, musical theatre, drama and gymnastics classes to compliment their age and stage of development.

Our in house and external exams/class assessments are optional and we offer them to ages 3 years and upwards. Our students absolutely love them and the benefits gained from even one of our little students taking part in our exam sessions are invaluable. You can be sure that while your child attends our classes their confidence and love for performing will grow. Examinations are possible in nearly every subject through our exam boards BATD, IDTA, Glenn Wood Tap, Trinity College London and American Ballet Theatre. All children who attend our classes are given the opportunity to take part in these exams at various points during the year when teachers deem them ready.

Our classes are carefully structured to allow children to develop and progress at their own speed. Our students are challenged to be the best that they can be in a fun and friendly learning environment.

If our students wish to pursue a career in Dance, Acting or Musical Theatre, at the age of 16/17 years old they may be eligible to audition for our Full Time Professional College. Our College offers 2 year Full Time Higher National Diploma qualifications in Musical Theatre, Professional Dance and Acting and Performance. Our HND qualification is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and teaching qualifications are on offer too. For younger students who wish to start professional work early we offer a children’s casting agency, AAPA Casting and auditions are held annually if we have space on the books.

Enrolling in classes couldn’t be easier. Just email us to get our up to date timetable. Then once you have decided which classes you wish to attend let us know. Our office staff will let you know if we have a waiting list or when the next appropriate start date is - we may have a show or exams that week. You don’t just need to try one class - try them all and see what you want to enrol in !

Don’t forget to keep an eye on our exciting Latest News page or Facebook page for shows, auditions, trials, term dates and new classes that may be starting. We are continually adding to our classes to keep you at the forefront of performing arts, with disciplines from all over the world.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to a class at our studio.
