Our AAPA Part Time Courses are all Accredited by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) and should students opt to take the Trinity College Examinations and are successful they will receive UCAS points for further college or university entry.
NPA Dance – 1 year course
Part Time Dance : NPA (equivalent to Standard Grade Level at school – SCQF level 5) 4-5 hours per week. Ages: 13yrs +
This course is an ideal starting point for students with little previous experience in dance or who are not old enough or at the required standard for the Higher Course. The Course studies the foundations of dance: Ballet and Jazz. Students through the year will create group choreography pieces, analyse other choreographers work and research the history of dance genres to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world of dance. Entry is by short group dance audition.
Higher Dance – 1 year course
Part Time Dance : Higher level (SCQF level 6). 4-5 hours per week. Ages : 15 years +
For students wishing to gain an all round knowledge in dance for either enjoyment or for embarking on a professional career then our Higher course is an ideal starting point. Our course covers the main styles of dance: Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Highland. Students also study choreography techniques and create their own choreographic piece throughout the year. Entry to this level is by audition only and students are expected to be of at least grade 4 dance standard in Ballet and Tap to be able to cope with the complexities and demands of the course.
NPA Musical Theatre – 2 year course
Part Time 2 year Musical Theatre : NPA (This course is the equivalent to Higher level at school. SCQF level 6) 3 hours per week as this is a 2 year course. Age: Students must be a minimum 14 years when enrolled on the course.
Through the course students will study Acting Through Song, Group Jazz Dance and Musical Theatre Singing Skills. 2 year course students will sit a Grade 5 Trinity Guildhall Musical Theatre exam in year 1 and a Grade 6 /7 in the 2nd year of the course. Although the SQA course itself does not attract separate UCAS points, the Grade 6 and 7 Trinity Guildhall examination does and if successfully gained it will count towards points for university courses with entry thorough UCAS.
To audition Students will be expected to take part in a Group Jazz dance workshop, prepare and perform a monologue from memory (this must be from a published play or piece of musical theatre) and perform from memory 2 contrasting songs – one to be a musical theatre song.
NPA Acting and Performance – 1 year course
Part Time Acting and Performance : Level NPA (This course is the equivalent to Higher Grade level at School – SCQF level 6). 4-5 hours per week. Age: 14 years +
Through this course students will study 2 units: Drama: Theatre Skills in Performance and Professional Theatre in Context. Alongside this course students will be able to study for a Trinity College London Acting and Performance examinations at grade 6-7 which will give students UCAS points on successful completion.
To auditions students will need to prepare and perform from memory 2 contrasting Monologues from published plays.
Course Times, Fees and Audition Applications
All our Part Time Courses will be studied out of school hours and have yet to be added to our timetable for August 2012. All Part Time course fees are £600 and students opting to take the Trinity College exams should budget between another £80-£100 for entry for that exam. Students 16 years and over when starting the course maybe eligible for £200 of ILA funding or in some cases local authority funding. Please note that the 2 year Musical Theatre course is £1200 (£600 per year). This is the equivalent to £15 per week per course.
